We want to welcome you to the 2017-18 school year at Virginia Court! There are several exciting events ahead in the coming weeks. We hope to see you at many of them!

July 29th, 10:00 a.m. - noon: Parent Meet and Greet with new principal and assistant principal. Come meet us, share your hopes and dreams for your child and our school. Enjoy a Kona shaved ice with the postcard sent to your home the week of July 24th.

August 5th 10:00-12:30: Back to School Kick Off at Aurora Town Center. APS students and families will receive free goodies, food and entertainment. Free backpacks and school supplies will also be provided while supplies last. Low or no-cost immunizations will also be available; please bring your child’s shot records. Also be sure to stop by the Virginia Court table to say hello to the Principal and Assistant Principal while you’re there!

August 7th 6:00-7:30: Back to School Night at Virginia Court. Students can meet their teachers, leave their supplies in their new classroom and learn about the coming school year. Parents can ask questions, get important information from their child’s teacher and more. We will end the night with an ice cream social!

August 8th and 9th (7:45-3:15): Students are invited to come by appointment to meet their teacher and have some one-on-one time to show what they know! This gives teachers a strong starting point for teaching your child at their point of need from day one. Please use Sign Up Genius to select a time that works for you.

August 10th: First Day of School, grades 1st-5th. Students should begin their day on the playground and find their teacher’s sign when the bell rings. This is going to be the start to a great year!

August 14th: First Day of Preschool and Kindergarten. Students will find their teacher’s sign when the bell rings. This is a big day for students and their parents. We will have extra staff members available to help. There will be a New Parent Tea in the gym beginning after the bell rings. Come meet the principal, have a cup of coffee and meet other new families.

We believe that your child’s education is important to helping them shape a successful future. We are here to partner with you. If you have questions, concerns or want to get involved, please reach out to us!

Meet Our New Assistant Principal

Hi! My name is Maria Burdine, the next Assistant Principal at Virginia Court! I am excited to kick off a great year with students, staff, families and the community! I have spent the majority of my educational journey in APS at various schools, advocating for all students and their educational needs. Most recently, I was a Restorative Liaison/Dean at East Middle School, but I have experience as a teacher, Admin TOSA and ELD Instructional Coach at the K-12 levels.  My husband and I have one son and one daughter. We enjoy family time on the weekends visiting the zoo, watching movies and exploring things to do in Colorado. I also enjoy reading, journaling, listening to music, spending time with family and friends and venturing to various hot springs in my free time. My motto in life is to Live, Love, Laugh. I live by this; it brings joy to my life, and I try to instill it in others. Our community deserves a school where all feel welcome to embrace their learning, and I will strive to support our students in making that happen, every day. I can’t wait to partner with you in the success of our Virginia Court students!

Greetings to the Virginia Court Community!

My name is Kim Pippenger and I am thrilled to be the next principal at Virginia Court Elementary School.  I have spent nearly all of my career in Aurora’s diverse communities.  Most recently I have served as Assistant Principal at Aurora Quest K-8 but I’ve also worked as a teacher and instructional coach with preschool through eighth grade.  Aurora is a special place and I’m so proud to engage with the Virginia Court community.
